Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto urged stakeholders at the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, to support the national downstreaming drive without compromising environmental sustainability.

Speaking at the launch of a downstreaming program at IWIP on Thursday, he underscored the importance of balancing industrial growth with ecological preservation.

"I am confident that you all will preserve the environment, pay attention to safety standards, and take measures to maintain water and air quality. Make sure that waste is properly managed here," Prabowo told IWIP stakeholders.

He stressed that Indonesia's natural resources must be leveraged to build a better future for the nation, adding that such efforts must be carried out responsibly.

"I appreciate the sound management, leadership, and sense of responsibility demonstrated by companies operating here. I have seen how well you have supported the communities living around this area, and that is something we should support and sustain," he said.

Prabowo also highlighted the newly launched IWIP downstreaming program, valued at around Rp180 trillion (US$10.2 billion).

He emphasized that the government is pressing ahead with its downstreaming drive to maximize the value of Indonesia's natural resources and generate greater economic benefits for the public.

"We must be able to properly manage our natural riches to deliver welfare and prosperity to the people and the nation," he remarked.

Thursday's event covered 11 projects, including the commercialization of four existing projects involving Blue Sparking Energy, REPT Battero Indonesia, Pioneering Aluminium Industries, and XCMG Indonesia Manufacturing.

Meanwhile, development officially began on seven new projects involving Guangqing Nickel Cobalt, Eno Prima Material, Tinci Materials Indonesia, Weda Bay Aluminium, Bintang Karya Aluminium, Flat Solar Energy Indonesia, and Guangqing Motor Indonesia.
