The Packers might be up for a major addition to their defensive line. Recently, the trade rumors have linked Indy's DT DeForest Buckner with Green Bay amid injuries leaving the Packers short of options up front. As per the Underdog's Tyler Brooke, the team has already made calls to explore a possible deal. Buckner would bring proven pass-rushing ability. Amid all mess, the Packers must look for the trade cost and his contract situation before making any potential move.

Packers Reportedly Make Trade Calls for DeForest Buckner

Recently, Brooke shared the report on his X post. The post reads, “The Packers have made trade calls inquiring about Colts DT DeForest Buckner, per multiple sources.”

The report does not totally confirm that the Packers and Indy have agreed on a deal or discussed a specific asking price. But Green Bay has all the reasons to explore the market.

And DT Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Ford have landed on injured reserve. Anthony Campbell has also dealt with an ankle injury that limited his practice participation.

Matt LaFleur squad also added former Cowboys first-round pick Mazi Smith earlier in the week. But he has yet to show himself as a consistent starter since entering the NFL in 2023. Nose tackle Jordon Riley has also been working toward a return from injured reserve.

Buckner could give Green Bay a nice option basically in the middle of its defense. He had four sacks through Indy's initial six games of the 2026 season.

Indianapolis Colts' Situation Could Put Buckner on the Trade Radar

Indy's front-office changes have fueled speculation about possible veteran departures. The Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard after their Week 6 loss to the Tennessee Titans on October 18.

Buckner, 32, has not made the Pro Bowl since 2023, but his early-season production suggests he can still pressure quarterbacks from the interior. That ability could help a Packers defense dealing with injuries at a key position.

Green Bay also has draft capital to explore a deal. Over the Cap projections cited in the report indicate the Packers could hold 11 picks in the 2027 NFL Draft, including multiple selections in the third and fourth rounds.

A third-round pick could be one possible starting point for negotiations, but no confirmed asking price has emerged. Buckner's contract expires after the 2026 season, so Green Bay would also need to consider his future beyond this year.

Whatever may be the case, the next step depends on whether the Packers decide Buckner is worth the price.
