Ministry strengthens training for teacher with 164 institutions

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is strengthening the implementation of the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program through cooperation agreements signed with 164 Teacher Professional Education Institutions (LPTKs).

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti called on all PPG providers to make the program a means of producing teachers who serve not only as agents of learning but also as agents of civilization.

“Teachers who are respected and emulated, whose every word conveys wisdom and whose every action serves as an inspiring example — that is what I call ‘teaching is inspiring,’ teaching inspires,” the minister said here on Sunday.

Mu’ti emphasized that the main principle of teaching is to inspire, based on sincerity in educating, character building, and setting an example.

He also stressed that PPG implementation must bring about meaningful transformation and should not merely serve as a formality for graduates to obtain certification.

Therefore, the minister called on PPG graduates to become professionals in their respective fields.

“Let us make this program more than just a formality. Let us make it a process that makes all Indonesian teachers increasingly professional,” he said.

Meanwhile, Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel Nunuk Suryani said the signing of the agreements reflected a joint commitment between the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Ditjen GTK) and LPTKs to complete PPG for in-service teachers and prepare prospective teachers.

The agreements also represent cooperation and participation among the government, LPTKs, and other stakeholders in realizing quality education for all Indonesian children.

“We believe that today’s signing of the cooperation agreements is a tangible manifestation of universal participation,” Suryani said.

“The government, LPTKs, and all education stakeholders are working together to provide quality education for all Indonesian children without exception,” she added.

Regarding current challenges, she highlighted the uneven implementation of PPG, noting that some provinces still do not have LPTKs offering the program.

Therefore, the government is encouraging the 164 partner LPTKs to help meet teacher needs based on the number, competencies, and distribution required in each region.

“Going forward, we want PPG implementation to be increasingly based on national and regional needs. LPTKs with strong capacity and proven track records will be encouraged to take on greater roles in line with the fields of study that are needed,” Suryani said.
