A habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) driver died after he was shot while driving his motorcycle in Purok Buongon, Barangay Malolos, Barili City, Cebu yesterday afternoon, Sunday, October 25, according to the report of DYSS Super Radyo GMA's Decemay P. Padilla.

The victim known by the alias Rodel, 36 years old, works as a motorcycle taxi driver and is a resident of Purok Buongon, Barangay Malolos, in Barili City, Cebu.

Prior to this, the Barili Municipal Police Station received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a shooting incident in the area, and they immediately responded.

Upon the arrival of the police at the scene, they found the victim lying on his back on the road, reportedly with a gunshot wound to the forehead.

According to the initial police investigation — based on the statement of the victim's live-in partner — the suspect, known by the alias "Vince," an adult resident of Barangay Tuyokon in the Municipality of Aloguinsan, allegedly harbored a grudge against the victim after the victim's motorcycle nearly struck the suspect's mother.

This is allegedly the reason why the suspect retaliated against the victim.

According to reports, the victim was allegedly shot by the suspect while driving his motorcycle, using a firearm of an undetermined caliber.

The victim reportedly managed to run away from the suspect, but was pursued and was shot again—this time in the forehead—which resulted in his death.

The suspect immediately fled the scene after committing the crime, riding a black, scooter-type motorcycle heading toward Tuyokon, Aloguinsan.

The police investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities reviewing CCTV footage. — BAP, GMA News
