Kano firm trains 300 in solar installation
WHC Solar has trained nearly 300 solar installers in Kano to improve installation standards, address technical errors and strengthen the quality of solar energy services in Nigeria.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Clint Chan, disclosed this on Saturday during a training programme, saying the initiative followed the company’s discovery that some installers lacked the technical knowledge and experience required for proper installations.
Chan said the gaps sometimes resulted in installation errors, prompting the company to organise the training to improve technicians’ skills and help them deliver more reliable services.
“Our mission is to ensure that everyone in the world has access to electricity because we recognise that Nigeria still faces significant electricity challenges,” he said.
He added that the programme was designed to equip installers with the practical knowledge needed to contribute meaningfully to the development of the solar energy sector.
Chan said the company initially expected about 252 participants but recorded an increase in attendance to nearly 300.

He explained that the training combined theoretical lessons with practical demonstrations on solar system installation and the proper configuration of inverters and lithium batteries.
“At the end of the training, participants will receive certificates as evidence of their participation and the knowledge they have acquired,” he said, adding that the practical sessions would enable participants to handle equipment and learn appropriate installation procedures.
Solar energy has become an important alternative for households and businesses seeking electricity amid Nigeria’s persistent power supply challenges.
However, proper system sizing, equipment configuration and installation procedures are essential to ensuring that solar systems perform as intended.
Chan said WHC Solar had operated since 2009, adding that its experience in the industry included a solar streetlight project in Chicago.
Chan said improved technical knowledge could help installers reduce costly return visits, protect their professional reputations and earn recommendations from satisfied customers.
