QC RTC junks Sara Duterte’s motion to inhibit judge in grave threat case

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Regional Trial Court has denied a motion seeking the recusal of the presiding judge handling the grave threat case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“We note the Court’s order denying the motion to inhibit by the accused,” Department of Justice (DOJ) Spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez said.

However, he refused to give other details “in observance of the sub judice rule.”

Under the Sub Judice Rule, making public statements, comments, or media coverage regarding ongoing court proceedings is restricted.

The vice president’s legal camp cites the same rule, as they also confirmed the denial of their motion to inhibit.

“We confirm receiving the RTC-Quezon City, Branch 98’s order denying our motion for inhibition of the Honorable Presiding Judge. The Vice President will exercise all available remedies,” Atty. Paul Lawrence Lim said.

He added: “We also received the court’s order requiring both parties to strictly comply with the sub judice rule and to refrain from publicly discussing the merits of the case. We will continue to comply, consistent with the Vice President’s respect for the rule of law.” /mr
