Indonesia plans Integrated National School in East Java's Situbondo

Indonesia's Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has confirmed plans to expand the Integrated National School (SNT) program to Situbondo District, East Java, as part of efforts to improve access to quality education.

Director General of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Non-Formal Education Gogot Suharwoto urged the Situbondo administration to prepare a 20-hectare site for the ministry to build the planned school.

"Let us hope that construction of an integrated national school will begin next year," he said while attending the launch of a child character-building movement in Situbondo on Saturday.

Suharwoto emphasized that President Prabowo Subianto introduced the SNT program to develop high-quality schools that meet national standards while incorporating local values.

The initiative is outlined in Presidential Instruction No. 10 of 2026 on the Acceleration of Education Quality Improvement.

"In short, we will be developing an integrated national school in Situbondo, which will be on par with existing international schools in Indonesia," he said.

Situbondo District Head Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo welcomed the ministry's announcement and expressed readiness to provide land for the school under the national program.

"With pleasure, we will prepare 20 hectares of land for the development of the integrated national school," he said, expressing confidence that the facility would become a leading institution with international standards.

The SNT program seeks to create a seamless learning ecosystem by integrating junior and senior high schools within a single educational complex.

The ministry stated earlier in August that the program would run at 37 locations nationwide this year, with 17 SNT schools already serving a combined 1,360 students in the 2026/2027 academic year.
