‘Avengers: Doomsday’ eyes USD 360 million China box office haul; Robert Downey Jr gears up for USD 1 billion global opening

'Avengers: Doomsday' is all set to reign supreme at the box office when it releases in theatres this December.Early predictions have set the film up for a record-breaking start with trade reports suggesting that the film has already crossed the USD 100 million mark in advance ticket sales.

'Avengers: Doomsday' eyes USD 360 million haul in China

As per the latest reports, a new poster for the film's China release has gone viral online. The poster confirms a December 16 release, while early projections have suggested that the film could earn around USD 360 million in China alone. If the predictions turn out to be true, then 'Doomsday' will reportedly be nearing a major milestone in global advance ticket sales, fuelling buzz that the film could just hit the USD 1 billion mark worldwide on its opening weekend, thus matching or even overtaking the 'Avengers: Endgame' record. The initial China box office projection comes amid growing interest in the film, which recently featured in a presentation at the China International Film Market. The event reportedly showcased the lineup of the film’s official cast members, while early reviews are building hype around the film, describing it as a "completely humorless' and a 'harrowing bloodbath'. Rumours are rife that this film will also feature a massive superhero death toll, much like 'Avengers: Infinity War', however, this time the dead characters will not be raised to life again.

'Avengers: Doomsday' to clash with ‘Dune: Part Three’

The film is reportedly the most anticipated Hollywood release of 2026 in the country, ranking ahead of titles including ‘Dune: Part Three’ and ‘The Odyssey’. It is scheduled to be screened in China in IMAX, which is among the five international markets to screen the film in the premium format. The anticipation surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ comes as ‘Avengers: Endgame’ continues to register a significant box office run in China.

The earlier film has reportedly crossed 90 million admissions in the country, including figures from its 'Encore' screenings, making it the 14th most-attended film of all time in the Chinese market.

'Avengers: Doomsday' advance box office collections

Globally, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has reportedly surpassed USD 100 million in advance ticket sales, while projections suggest it could open to more than USD 300 million domestically in North America. The film features Robert Downey Jr. returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom, alongside Chris Evans, who is set to reprise his role as Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America. However, the film’s eventual box office performance will depend on audience reception, international market performance and competition from other major releases. The impact of ‘Dune: Part Three’ in key international territories remains to be seen.
