Bursting the Bubble- Mutahi Ngunyi Warns Sifuna’s Popularity Will Be Popped Before 2027

Translate

Prominent political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has issued a stern warning to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, predicting that his rapid political ascent and current wave of popularity will be deliberately deflated before the 2027 General Election.

Commenting on Sifuna’s momentum following the launch of his new political outfit, The Equitable Party (TEP), Ngunyi cautioned that the senator’s soaring influence might be short-lived. In a message shared on social media, Ngunyi referenced classic power dynamics, suggesting that Sifuna is being set up for a political fall.

“If you want to DESTROY someone, you must first make him FLOURISH,” Ngunyi noted, implying that political rivals are allowing the senator to peak prematurely to ensure his momentum fizzles out well before the country goes to the polls.

Ngunyi’s assessment aligns with sentiments voiced by several leaders allied with the government and the ODM establishment, who view the excitement surrounding Sifuna’s “Linda Mwananchi” movement as temporary political euphoria. Figures such as Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga have similarly questioned whether Sifuna can sustain his current trajectory, pointing to pockets of resistance during recent rallies as evidence that public enthusiasm may wane.

However, not all political figures agree with Ngunyi’s critique. Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo defended the senator, arguing that his critics underestimated Sifuna’s organic appeal. Mabona suggested that attempts within the political establishment to sideline Sifuna inadvertently energized his base and catalyzed his rapid rise.

As Sifuna transitions TEP into a formal vehicle to field candidates nationwide, the debate over whether his movement represents a lasting political force or a temporary bubble highlights the growing friction within opposition ranks ahead of 2027.
