"His Reputation Preceded Him": Missing OG Yellowstone Star's 2026 Return Gets Glowing Early Review

EXCLUSIVE: One Marshals star couldn't be more thrilled to welcome another familiar Yellowstone character into the fold.
Throughout its first season, the spinoff series didn't generally feature any major cameos from the stars of Taylor Sheridan's original show, instead filling its primary cast with Luke Grimes' Kayce Dutton, Brecken Merrill as his teenage son Tate, Gil Birmingham as Broken Rock Chief Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Water as Rainwater's personal bodyguard Mo. Even still, Marshals kept its predecessor's spirit alive and well, with references to everyone from Wes Bentley's antagonistic Dutton brother Jamie to Kevin Costner's John Dutton III and, most notably, Kelsey Asbille's Monica, who died of a terminal illness off-screen.
Now, however, Marshals season 2 is shaking things up as CBS announced the first major Yellowstone character not already in the main cast to be returning, in the form of Jefferson White's Jimmy Hurdstrom. Initially introduced as a drug addict who, through John Dutton accepting a friend's request for help, is brought on as a ranch hand at the Dutton's, Jimmy quickly evolved into one of the more beloved of supporting characters in the series as he began rebuilding his life.
Ahead of the new season's premiere, ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns interviewed Logan Marshall-Green to discuss Marshals season 2. When asked about White's Yellowstone return for the series, the spinoff star confirmed that he's "had a couple scenes with Jefferson" thus far at the time of the interview, but more notably expressed, "not as much as I'd like."
Confessing that he's "never seen" Sheridan's original Yellowstone run, Marshall-Green instead found himself intrigued by the knowledge that "a really good actor" had been brought on for Marshals season 2, and shared a glowing early review of White's performance as "his reputation [having] preceded him for good reason":
Logan Marshall-Green: He's very playful, and a great listener, hard worker, and just elevates the scene in a way that I love working with. So, I hope we get a lot more. If [those are] the actors Yellowstone has, keep bringing 'em, because I think he's one of my favorite characters on the show. I don't know that character from Yellowstone, but I now understand, from what I'm hearing, why he's so beloved.
Beyond expanding the roster of original show characters returning for the spinoff, the announcement of Jimmy's return for Marshals season 2 proved a notable development in that it would be the first appearance of the character in at least two years. White largely exited Sheridan's series after season 4, with Jimmy moving to Texas to work at the Four Sixes Ranch, which was originally slated for a Yellowstone spinoff of its own, but did make a handful of appearances in the show's final season, namely its finale.
Given the show already comes with a pretty stacked roster, the expectation would have been for White's Marshals season 2 return to simply be a guest appearance. However, CBS confirmed that Jimmy will have a recurring arc in the season, even while keeping the story details of his return under wraps. While the Marshals season 1 finale setup of a trip to Texas seemed to point to an explanation for his appearance, the premiere ultimately kept the action in Montana.
Regardless of the story behind his appearance, that Marshall-Green is already thoroughly thrilled by White's performance in Marshals season 2 should come as an encouraging sign for longtime Yellowstone fans who have been keen to see the character return. Additionally, now that he's officially back in the fold, it will be interesting to see if this also leads to a recurring part for Jimmy in Dutton Ranch season 2.
