Chris Colfer Reveals If He’d Return for a ‘Glee’ Reboot: “I Have Heard Absolutely Nothing”
Chris Colfer has addressed whether he’d appear in a possible Glee revival, after creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed that he has finished working on a script.
The Land of Stories author, who played Kurt Hummel in the Fox musical series for six seasons, told Bustle in an interview published Tuesday that he knows “nothing” and has “heard absolutely nothing” about a Glee reboot.
“I wish I did,” Colfer said. “It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya [Rivera] is gone. But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no.”
Murphy revealed in an August interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he was considering reviving Glee. The prolific creator behind such series as Nip/Tuck, American Horror Story, Pose and Love Story cited Glee‘s fans as the reason behind the possible revival.
“For many, many people now in their 20s, they grew up on that show and it meant something to them,” Murphy explained. “The music meant something. So, let’s kick it around and see what we get. It’s always about the story for me.”
One month later, Murphy said that he and his collaborators, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, completed a script for the Glee reboot.
“Brad and Ian and I, who wrote all [of the] first two seasons, have written something,” he told Entertainment Tonight in September. “I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original castmembers, and it’s very sweet — they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea. Nobody has read it. So I don’t know, we’ll see. I vowed to myself that I wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think, particularly the cast, because we were very close when we were making it.”
A six-time Emmy award winner, Glee aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015. The series followed a glee club at the fictional William McKinley High School and the student’s director and teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison).
Lea Michele, Amber Riley, Dianna Agron, Chord Overstreet, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Heather Morris, Harry Shum Jr., Darren Criss and Jane Lynch were all a part of the ensemble cast, as well as late actors Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera and Mark Salling.
Michele responded to the reports of a Glee revival in an interview with E! News in September, telling the publication that she “will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”
