Jason Statham’s Record-Breaking Action Thriller Refuses To Back Down On New Streaming Home

Jason Statham and action thrillers continue to be a match made in heaven. The actor fairly consistently stars in one or two of these films per year, most recently headlining Mutiny (2026) from director Jean-François Richet. Other notable recent Statham titles include films like Shelter (2026), A Working Man (2025), and The Beekeeper (2024). Some of these action thrillers are more successful than others, with some becoming franchises while others are more quickly forgotten. Now, one past Statham flick is re-emerging as a success.

Seven years after its release, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) is proving popular on Hulu in the U.S. As of writing, the film ranks as the fourth most popular movie on the platform, and the twelfth most popular title overall, beating some significant other movies and TV shows.

Statham's Hobbs & Shaw Is Taking Hulu By A Furious Storm

When looking just at movies, Hobbs and Shaw falls behind only Coraline (2009), Hypnotic (2023), and The Accountant 2 (2025). The action thriller beats a number of other major titles, however, including Road House (2024), The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026), Inglourious Basterds (2009), Save the Last Dance (2001), and Wicked (2024).

Directed by David Leitch, Hobbs and Shaw is a spinoff of the long-running Fast & Furious franchise, following Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Statham) as they team up to face off against a cyber-genetically enhanced villain. Also starring Vanessa Kirby, Idris Elba, Helen Mirren, and Eiza González, the film earned lukewarm reviews from critics and currently sports a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Movie Holds A Special Place In Statham's Career

Hobbs and Shaw's genre may make it one of many in Statham's career, but the film is a record-holder in other ways. The film, for example, marks Statham's first ever credit as a producer, a role he has occupied on a number of films since, including Meg 2: The Trench (2023), The Expendables 4 (2023), The Beekeeper, and Mutiny, among others. He's also set to produce the upcoming The Beekeeper 2, which releases next January.

Hobbs and Shaw also remains Statham's highest-grossing movie in which he has a lead role. The film grossed $760 million worldwide, making it an undeniable hit for Universal Pictures. With Fast Forever on the way and expected to wrap up the Fast & Furious franchise, Statham's time as Shaw may not be over just yet, and audiences are clearly enjoying revisiting this fun spinoff movie.
