Nigeria’s tennis sensation, Seun Ogunsakin, has achieved a career-high ranking of 59th in the world and third in Africa in the latest junior rankings released by the International Tennis Federation on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ogunsakin’s rise follows his triumph at the J200 Cairo tournament in Egypt last weekend.

The 17-year-old, who trains at the African Regional Tennis Centre in Tunisia, had dropped to 91st in the world before his impressive run in Egypt. However, the title-winning performance propelled him 32 places up the rankings to a career-high 59th.

The Ekiti-born youngster has also enjoyed significant milestones this year, making his debut in the qualifying draw at Roland Garros and the main draw at Wimbledon.

His latest rise is another boost as preparations gather pace for the 2027 Australian Open Junior Championships, where he will be hoping to secure another Grand Slam appearance.

A place at the Australian Open would offer Ogunsakin another opportunity to test his progress against some of the world’s best emerging tennis players and consolidate his growing reputation on the international junior circuit.
