Chinese hiker rescued after slipping on Mount Rinjani

Lombok Tengah, W Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - A joint search and rescue team evacuated a 47-year-old Chinese national safely after he slipped while hiking in Mount Rinjani National Park in West Nusa Tenggara Province, authorities said here Tuesday.

“At 4:47 a.m. local time Tuesday, the joint SAR team and the victim arrived at the Senaru park post. The hiker was taken to Nusa Medica Clinic Sembalun,” Mataram SAR Chief Muhamad Hariyadi said.

Li Xianhua was reported to have slipped on the Senaru-Batu Ceper hiking trail on Mount Rinjani at around 8 a.m. local time Monday.

“The incident caused the victim to suffer a severe head impact and lose consciousness,” Hariyadi said.

Mataram SAR received an emergency report from an EMHC representative and deployed rescuers from the Sembalun SAR standby unit to the scene.

Additional personnel from the Mataram SAR office and Bangsal SAR standby unit were also deployed to speed up the rescue operation.

“We immediately responded to the emergency report. Our priority was to reach the victim quickly and provide initial medical assistance, as the victim had suffered a head injury and lost consciousness,” Hariyadi said.

The rescuers were equipped with SAR gear, including mountaineering and medical evacuation equipment, operational vehicles and other supporting equipment, he said.

The operation involved the Mount Rinjani National Park office, East Lombok SAR Unit, EMHC, Nusa Medica Clinic Sembalun, Sembalun police, Sembalun military post, and local porters and hiking guides.

At around 8:15 p.m. local time, rescuers reached the victim and began a staged evacuation from the initial rescue team to the Senaru park post.

“With the victim safely evacuated, the SAR operation is officially closed,” Hariyadi said.
