A 14-year-old teenager has been arrested after allegedly admitting to throwing a stone at a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) train, shattering a window on one of its coaches on Thursday.

The secondary school student was arrested today at a house in Kampung Guar Sanji, Sinar Harian reported.

Arau police chief Ahmad Mohsin Rodi said preliminary investigations found that the boy had deliberately thrown a stone at the train near the motorcycle bridge in Kampung Jelempok.

The incident occurred while a KTM Komuter Utara train was travelling between Arau and Kodiang.

KTMB had said the train driver alerted the railway operator after the window was shattered by an object thrown from outside.

The affected coach was cleared and access restricted as a safety precaution before being taken out of service to replace the damaged window at the Bukit Tengah depot.

He said the boy had no previous criminal record and was being held at the Kangar police station lock-up to assist with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage.

The offence carries a jail term of between one and five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
