Boston Red Sox fans planning to spend Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park will have a little more time before first pitch. The Red Sox announced Saturday evening that the start time for their Sept. 13 series finale against the Kansas City Royals has been pushed back because of expected rain in the Boston area.

The game originally was scheduled to begin at 1:35 p.m. ET. First pitch now is set for 3:05 p.m. ET.

"The Red Sox have moved the start time of the game tomorrow, Sunday, September 13, against the Royals at Fenway from 1:35 p.m. to 3:05 p.m.," the team announced on its official X account.

The adjustment is intended to provide a better opportunity to play the game following the wet weather expected earlier in the day.

Red Sox-Royals Finale Carries Postseason Importance

Boston enters Sunday's game with an 81-68 record and currently occupies the second American League wild-card position. The Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Kansas City. Ranger Suárez delivered seven strong innings, while Wilyer Abreu supplied a key two-run double as Boston regained some momentum in the playoff race.

That makes Sunday's series finale more than another date on the schedule.
