The head of a Toronto real estate group says his family is traumatized and recovering after they were attacked in a violent home invasion in the Bridle Path neighbourhood Thursday morning.

David Morton, CEO of MAC Group, said three members of his family are recovering in hospital after they were shot during the home invasion. All four members of the family were also attacked with a hammer, he said in a statement issued Friday.

"It is difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home," he said.

"No family should ever have to experience this. People should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes without fear of armed individuals breaking in and threatening their lives."

On Thursday, Toronto police said they responded to reports of a "violent home invasion" and shooting at a home on Hyde Park Circle near Bayview Avenue and Lawrence Avenue E., around 3:43 a.m.

Police said three suspects, armed with handguns and a hammer, forced their way into the home through a rear entrance and attacked four adults in the home — a father, mother and their two adult daughters.

Two of the family members have life-altering injuries, police said.

Toronto police continue to investigate and are searching for three suspects.

Morton encouraged anyone with information to contact police.

Police are also urging anyone with information, dashcam footage or doorbell camera video to contact them.
