Selma Blair Addresses Alleged Plane Assault for First Time in New Video: ‘I Am So Sorry’
The actress Blair pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault stemming from the incident and was released on bail
Selma Blair apologized in a video following her arrest after the alleged assault of multiple flight attendants on an inbound flight from Los Angeles to New York on Oct. 11. She pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault stemming from the plane incident and was released on bail.
‘I know I’ve been quiet for a couple weeks since October 11th,” she began in her post, addressing the incident publicly for the first time. “And you deserve to hear from me directly. And I’m sorry that it’s taken this long.” Amid the unfolding legal process, Blair said her lawyers have asked to “not say anything about that day.” She added, “I’m listening to them, and I take this very seriously.”
Blair continued, “What I can tell you, though, is very simple, and the truest thing I know about myself, and that not one day ever have I intended to hurt or frighten anyone a day in my life.” She then adressed the “people that I disappointed, that I hurt, that I frightened, alarmed,” and said: “I am so sorry.”
“And to the people that have written, are called, are sent wishes of love or caring. It has meant everything to me and my son, who is my world, as a scout who is also okay,” she wrote. “So right now, I’m going to be taking care of my health and my son, and thinking of you all with gratitude and love.”
During the alleged altercation, which is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, two flight attendants reported injuries, while another was transported to the hospital. She is also accused of kicking a Port Authority police officer who took her to the hospital and a nurse at the hospital. Blair pleaded not guilty to those charges.
A spokesperson for Blair previously said that contrary to reports, “Selma did not intend to harm anyone.” In a statement to People, her rep said, “Since Sunday night, the public account of what happened to Selma aboard a flight to New York has been built almost entirely on a police statement and a decade-old headline.”
The “decade-old headline” cited by Blair’s rep refers to an incident in 2016 where Blair was removed from a plane for causing a disturbance. Two years after that incident, the actress revealed she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

At her Oct. 12 arraignment, her attorney, Shawn Barnes, told the judge that she had missed several doses of medication and also fell and hit her head on the flight, reported the New York Post. Barnes said that the incident “was not an intentional assault” and that she had hopped on the plane following a heavy workload. “These factors, coupled with the altitude, resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation,” said her defense attorney.
