Eminem is standing by his decision to appear on Kid Rock’s new Christian music album, Halfway 2 Jesus. In a social media post marking the album’s release, the rapper wrote, “Not about choosing sides, just choosing to make music with my old friend. Praying for all of us.”

The rapper guests on a track called “Heal My Faith,” in which he traces his decades-long history with Kid Rock and expresses hope that their friendship can inspire others to put aside their differences: “He is my brother, not my political enemy/ B.O. to the B., we wrote this for those who believe/ In G.O. to the D, however you voted or lean/ Liberal and evangelical can agree/ It’s God first, home of the free,” Eminem raps.

Kid Rock made a similar declaration in a foreword for the album, writing, “I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem. His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all . . . We hope that sets an example for people who’ve lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently.”
