LIBRENG SAKAY: Free rides offered to NCR commuters amid transport strike

Several local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region deployed vehicles offering free rides to assist commuters affected by the transport strike on Monday.

According to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita, free rides were already stationed at the Incident Command Post at Kartilya ng Katipunan in Ermita, Manila as of 6 a.m.

Malabon also began its free ride service at 5 a.m.

The LGU said vehicles would be deployed to areas needing additional transportation under the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's dispatching system.

Some transport groups in Malabon also continued operating despite the strike.

Among those not participating in Malabon were the Majesto, Toda, and Poda federations, according to the city government.

The transport group Samahang Manibela, Mananakay at Nagkaisang Terminal ng Transportasyon (Manibela) on Monday started its three-day transport strike as a fare hike took effect.

Manibela conducted its transport strike in parts of Metro Manila to protest against rising fuel prices and call for higher fares. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
