Manchester United handed injury boost as star returns to training ahead of Roma clash

The Dane’s absence has hurt Michael Carrick’s side, who have also lost Luke Shaw to injury, leaving their head coach without a recognised senior left-back.

Dorgu, who joined the club from Lecce back in January 2025, had deputised for the England international in that full-back role occasionally this term, but his minutes under Carrick have primarily come as a more advanced winger.

His return will be a welcome lift for the club, who are looking to end a nine-game winless run that stretches back to the end of August, when they defeated Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford in their only Premier League victory of the campaign.

They sit 17th in the English top flight, having suffered another defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer’s strikes earning the three points for Xabi Alonso’s hosts, while Lisandro Martinez saw red for two bookable offences.

Pressure has piled on Carrick as United’s stretch of matches without a win extended, and the under-fire head coach made a point of apologising to supporters following the Champions League crushing by Como a fortnight ago, holding his hands up in acknowledgement of the travelling support in Italy.

A 3-0 home demolition by Bournemouth followed, where the former midfielder looked to be waving goodbye to the Old Trafford faithful as he walked off the field and down the tunnel, with the players following behind him heavily booed by the United fans.

He was spared the sack ahead of the trip to west London, with it being reported that United were looking to reassess his situation during the November international break, giving him remaining games against Roma and Aston Villa.
