#NSTviral: Will Malaysians change? School crossing video raises concerns

PUTRAJAYA: Concerns over motorists failing to give way to pedestrians have resurfaced after schoolchildren were seen struggling to cross a zebra crossing.
The video, believed to have been recorded near Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 9(2), shows two children attempting to cross while motorcycles and cars continue passing.
The clip has drawn more than 63,000 views and 1,300 likes on Threads, with users questioning why motorists appeared unwilling to slow down for children in a school zone.
Threads user shahrimtamrin, who shared the video, asked: "When will Malaysians change? When will the people of my country respect the rights of pedestrians?"
The video comes days after two schoolgirls, aged 8 and 9, were injured after being hit by a motorcycle while using a pedestrian crossing in front of their school in Permatang Pauh, Penang, on Sept 23.
Another similar incident was reported in Bandar Saujana Utama, Selangor, on Monday, when a schoolgirl was injured after she was struck by a motorcycle while crossing a pedestrian crossing in front of SMK Saujana Utama.
The recent cases were also raised in the discussion on the post, with users questioning motorists' failure to give way at pedestrian crossings.
