Sarawak budget to be tabled at final state assembly meeting

Sarawak’s 2027 budget will be among four bills to be tabled at the state assembly meeting from Oct 12-21, which is the final meeting of the assembly this year.
Speaker Asfia Awang Nassar, said the 2027 budget and a supplementary budget for 2026 would be tabled by deputy premier Douglas Uggah Embas in the form of a supply bill and a supplementary supply bill.
Two other bills to be tabled are the Sarawak State Library (Amendment) Bill and the Public Holidays (Amendment) Bill.
The amendments to the Sarawak State Library Ordinance would help streamline governance and enable the establishment of a memorial archive to preserve materials relating to prominent figures, events, heritage, culture and the history of Sarawak, said the speaker.
“The amendments to the Public Holidays Ordinance aim to clarify the mechanism for replacement holidays when two public holidays fall on the same day,” he said.
The state assembly’s term expires at the end of the year, and elections must be held by mid-February.
