2027 Budget: DBKL to build 22km covered walkway linking KL landmarks

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will build a 22km covered pedestrian walkway linking major landmarks, including the National Mosque, Dataran Merdeka and Central Market, under the 2027 Budget.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the walkways would also connect public housing areas to commercial premises, schools, clinics and public transport stations.

Tabling the 2027 Budget, he said DBKL had allocated RM400 million to create 120 acres of new green spaces, restore existing parks and upgrade public facilities and public housing.

A 100-acre plot of leasehold land in Bukit Kiara would also be gazetted as a Federal Park for public use.

Anwar said two DBKL-owned buildings — the Anjung Kelana Homeless Transformation Centre in Taman Desa and the Cheras Temporary Market — would be upgraded into day centres for the elderly.

To revitalise the capital's heritage, entertainment duty would be exempted for arts, cultural, entertainment and sports activities held at Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara.

He also thanked Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) for restoring Stadium Merdeka and subsequently Stadium Negara.

Anwar said conservation efforts under Khazanah's KL Heritage initiative, including work on the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and surrounding heritage sites, had attracted half a million domestic and foreign visitors.

The next focus would be on conserving Menara Dayabumi, Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) headquarters.
