Richard E Grant channels Miss Congeniality to celebrate Instagram milestone

Richard E Grant has channelled Miss Congeniality to celebrate an Instagram milestone.

The 69-year-old actor recently hit one million followers on the social media platform.

Marking the occasion, Grant shared a clip wearing a sash and crown and holding a torch with a flame.

While his crown was made of tinfoil, his torch was a light fixture.

Strolling out into a garden, strutting and twirling, Grant smiled and waved as if he was in a beauty pageant.

He eventually broke character and doubled over in laugher, before the video cut to another clip of him running into shot in front of a hedge.

With one side of his shirt loose over his shoulder, the actor bowed and danced, spinning and then holding a bouquet of flowers while kissing to an imaginary crowd around him.

The clip was set to the song One In A Million by Bosson, which was used in a scene from the 2000 American action comedy film starring Sandra Bullock.

She starred as Gracie Hart in the movie, which followed a FBI agent tasked with going undercover as a contestant when a terrorist threatens to bomb the Miss United States pageant.

In the scene that Grant recreated, Hart steps out on stage with the other contestants during the pageant, with the group performing a dance while each dressed as the Statue of Liberty.

Commenting on the post, Grant’s daughter Olivia Grant said: “Not sure how many other daughters spend their afternoons helping with tasks like this.”

Grant made his film debut in the comedy Withnail And I in 1987.

He has also appeared in films including How to Get Ahead in Advertising, The Age of Innocence, The Portrait of a Lady, Gosford Park, and Saltburn.

On the small screen, Grant has featured in the television shows Doctor Who, Frasier and Game of Thrones.

Throughout his career he has also been nominated for Academy Award, Bafta, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild awards.
