Naga steps up water conservation drive ahead of ‘super’ El Niño

LEGAZPI CITY — The city government of Naga has intensified its water conservation campaign in preparation for a potentially prolonged dry spell brought by the Super El Niño.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) urged residents to conserve water early, warning that occasional rains may not sufficiently replenish underground water reserves.
The campaign promotes simple household practices, including using a basin when washing dishes instead of leaving faucets running.

Raynor Rodriguez, chief of the CDRRMO, estimated that each household could save at least one liter per washing session, potentially reaching 150,000 liters daily if 50,000 households adopt the practice.
Mayor Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo said El Niño’s effects could begin this November and intensify in December and January 2027.
She warned that a three-month drought could severely affect household water supplies.
The Metro Naga Water District has also reported a roughly 30-percent decline in water availability as of November.
Meanwhile, the city government is preparing emergency water containers for residents, although rising demand has made procurement difficult. INQ
