EastEnders airs troubling Kat Moon scenes as she spirals over Zoe Slater's death in early BBC iPlayer release

Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) has suffered a breakdown in EastEnders following daughter Zoe Slater's (Michelle Ryan) death.

At the beginning of September, Kat woke in the middle of the night unsettled and her first instinct was to check on Zoe. She was horrified to find her dead, having sustained a head wound while trying to buy back her grandfather Charlie's taxi.

Instead of alerting her family, a stunned Kat covered her daughter’s corpse in blankets in an attempt to warm her up and wake her. She was in total disbelief that she could be gone.

Eventually, as the whole clan gathered to welcome Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), Mo Harris (Laila Morse), and Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) to The Vic's living quarters, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) knew that his wife was acting suspiciously and eventually entered Zoe's bedroom.

Kat cried out and chased after the hearse when Zoe was eventually taken away.

She's spent much of the last month lying in Zoe's bed, refusing to get out of her pyjamas and get changed. We've discovered over the last week that Kat has also developed a dependancy on alcohol.

In today's episode, after refusing help from Dr Ash Panesar (Sakira Vel), Kat sat alone in the Square Gardens and was haunted by reminders of losing Zoe. When she returned home, Eve Panesar-Unwin (Heather Peace) was visiting in the hope she could make a breakthrough.

A number of suggestions flew around the kitchen - though when Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) suggested colouring in as a form of therapy, Kat flipped.

She rushed out and grabbed a bottle from the barrel store, before tearing strips off Alfie and Eve and then heading towards the tube station. Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) found her in a drunken state and eventually guided her back to his house, where she began raiding his cupboards for booze.

When she realised that she wasn't going to get a rise out of him, Kat tried to insult the late Peggy Mitchell and Nigel Bates's memory, before eventually returning home.

At the bar, she boldly announced that all drinks for the remainder of the evening were on the house. Sat beside a group of rowdy lads, she continued to spout insults at Alfie and Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) and wished Jasmine dead.

Kat then guided a man into the women's toilets, before insulting Alfie's character and clothing, knowing that he was in the cubicle unblocking the toilet. She clearly wanted him to react, and when she received the silent treatment, returned back to the public.

Concerned son Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) ran downstairs to see if she was OK, and she pushed him backwards into the hallway. Terrified by her actions, she darted upstairs and was followed by Alfie.

He slammed the door behind him, and he finally gave in to her provocative behaviour.

Can Alfie calm her down?
