‘So dramatic’: Here’s why Tyla was accused of ‘shoplifting’ [video]

During the South African Snack Challenge on the Elle UK YouTube channel recently, Tyla shared a childhood memory in which a store security guard wrongly accused her of shoplifting, believing she had stolen a Fizzer.

In a YouTube video with over 400K views, the snack test required Tyla to rank 9 popular snacks in South Africa from best to worst.

However, the Grammy Award-winning star dropped a surprising tidbit about her childhood experience with the Fizzer, describing it as “dramatic.”

“One time, a security [guard] stopped me in a store because they thought I stole a Fizzer. They were like, “You’re shoplifting,” and I was like, “Really? I’m not going to steal a Fizzer.” It was so dramatic,” she began.

“They were like, “What are you chewing?” They made us go all the way to the cameras, and we had to prove to them that we walked in with ice cream. They stopped us when we were walking out,” she added.

TYLA RANKS SOUTH AFRICAN SNACKS

Simba Ghost Pops, Biltong, and Peppermint Crisp chocolate were clear favourites for Tyla, making it on her top three list.

The ranking was followed by Baxton Apricots, Nik Naks Flamin’ Hot, and Sparletta Sparberry, a soft drink that reminded Tyla of her childhood: “My mother used to tell me this is medicine. Whenever we were sick, we would drink this. I don’t know where my mom got the information from,” said Tyla.

Unfortunately, she placed Simba Mrs Balls Chutney, Romany Creams, and Fizzer on the “worst side” of the order, with the latter evoking quite a bitter childhood memory.
