007 First Light Free DLC Releases Today With Feature Fans Have Craved Since Launch

Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.
007 First Light had incredibly high expectations as the marriage of traditional action-adventure gameplay and IO Interactive’s bread-and-butter Hitman gameplay. It’s safe to say now that it exceeded those expectations, particularly in terms of how satisfying 007 First Light’s Batman: Arkham-inspired melee combat is.
The game has a decent bit of replayability, too, depending on how willing players are to unlock collectibles throughout the campaign or grind challenges in 007 First Light’s TacSim endgame. Now, though, players suddenly have a lot more content to tackle.
Per Twitter/X, IO has shared a brief trailer for its newly released DLC, dubbed Extended Operations. This DLC was teased for a while without actually divulging what it would include, but it seems to have fulfilled some of what was depicted in 007 First Light’s Year 1 roadmap, as well as what fans have wanted from the game ever since it initially launched in May:
- New activity: “Valhalla Protocol”
- New operation: “Jungle Heist”
- New feature: Photo mode
- New weapons: Squire Marksman rifle and Storm 12 Gauge shotgun
- New outfits: Leisure Beam, First Class, and Observant Spy
- New Game +
- New difficulty option: 00
It’s terrific to have two brand-new missions now available, especially with “Valhalla Protocol” featuring the return of 007 First Light’s Aston Martin Valhalla. That said, New Game Plus and a harder difficulty to run through it with may be what most fans are thrilled about.
Details are scarce about what New Game Plus entails beyond being able to wear whatever outfits players wish throughout the game, yet that may be all some fans ever hoped for.
For instance, Reddit user kyle429 should certainly be happy, at least, as they wrote: “I preordered the game to get the extra content, only to find out that I can only use those outfits in the stupid challenge mode?”
Having three new outfits only makes this new feature that much better. Now, anyone who has mastered melee combat and gunplay in 007 First Light can test their mettle even further.
The description for 007 First Light’s new hardest difficulty setting reads as follows:
Success requires planning and skill. Enemies are difficult to defeat and deadly. Resources are limited. The ultimate challenge for an agent that has already earned their number.
007 First Light is a compelling first step toward what could be a fantastic new 007 video game franchise, and it’s reinforced in every way possible by the Hitman blood coursing through its veins. There’s no way to tell whether IO will endeavor to immediately follow its 007 debut with a sequel, or perhaps revisit Hitman in the interim, but there are now plenty of reasons to look forward to whatever IO does next, even if Agent 47 is never throwing knees in a clinch or gunning down waves of mercenaries like James Bond tends to do.
