Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida on Thursday stressed that an alleged violation of the law is no small matter following Batangas Representative Leandro Leviste brushing off the issuance of an arrest warrant against him.
“Malaking pong bagay. Bakit po? Ang hindi pagsunod… sa batas ay malaking bagay. Itinakda ang batas para magkaroon po ng kaayusan, di ba? Kaya nagpapasa ang Kongreso. Kaya tayo nag-e-elect ng congressman at senador para ipasa to,” he said.
(It is a big deal. Why? Not following the law is a big deal. The law is established to maintain order, right? That is why Congress passes laws. That is why we elect congressmen and senators to pass them.)
On Wednesday, Leviste told his supporters not to worry about him after a Makati court issued the warrant for alleged violation of the Public Service Act, saying that this was “a small matter” compared to everything else.
Vida said that Leviste himself is a congressman, as is his mother, Senator Loren Legarda.
“Tayo ay sumusunod lamang doon sa mga batas na ipinasa nila dahil ang layunin nito ay magkaroon ng kaayusan,” he said.
(We are simply following the laws that they passed because the purpose of these laws is to maintain order.)
“Ang paggalang natin sa proseso ng Korte at ang paggalang natin sa korte at sa proseso nito, tulad ng arrest warrant, ay malaking bagay,” he added.
(Respecting the Court’s process and respecting the Court and its processes, such as an arrest warrant, is a big deal.)
The DOJ said it filed the case against Leviste and others on September 29 with the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 235.
“The position of the DOJ is that finding of prima facie evidence with reasonable certainty of conviction that the… Solar Corporation willfully neglected and intentionally failed to comply with its obligation,” it said. —AOL,GMA News
