Saif Ali Khan attack case: Nurse identifies Mohammed Shariful in court, says intruder demanded 'Rs 1 crore'

The trial in the case of the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra home has begun. The family’s staff nurse has pointed out the accused, Mohammed Shariful, in court. She said he is the man she saw inside the house during the failed robbery attempt in January 2025.

The nurse is the complainant and also the first witness in the case.

Nurse identifies accused in court

The 59-year-old nurse told the court that she has worked with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s family for over five years. She was assigned to look after their younger son, Jeh. Her deposition, as reported by the Indian Express, went back to the night of January 15-16, when an intruder allegedly entered the home in the early hours and attacked several people, including Saif.

Intruder demanded money, says nurse

As per the statement she had earlier given to the police, the nurse woke up around 2 am after hearing a sound. She saw that the bathroom light was on and first thought Kareena was inside. She woke again after feeling that something was wrong, and this time she saw the shadow of a man in a cap moving towards Jeh’s bed.She rushed to pick up the child, and the intruder allegedly attacked her with a hexa blade. Two of her fingers were hurt.

She also told the police that the man ordered her to stay quiet and said she could not leave the room. When she asked what he wanted, he allegedly asked for money and said, “Rs 1 crore.” The commotion also woke Jeh’s nanny, who was in the room.

How Saif Ali Khan was attacked

The nurse said the nanny managed to step out of the room and raise an alarm. This woke Saif and Kareena, who ran towards the room after hearing the noise.According to the nurse, Saif confronted the intruder and asked who he was and what he wanted.

The man allegedly attacked the actor during this face-off. Another staff member who came into the room after hearing the noise was also attacked, she said.Saif was able to overpower the intruder for a while. In the meantime, the family members and staff moved to another room and locked themselves in, while other employees arrived after hearing the noise. The accused allegedly fled through the main door.Saif suffered injuries to his back, neck and hand and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Court rejects second guilty plea

The trial began on Friday, after the court turned down Shariful’s second attempt to plead guilty. The 31-year-old accused had first tried to do so in August and again this month, but the court rejected both requests. He is alleged to be a Bangladeshi national.Public prosecutor Iqbal Solkar started examining the witness, and her examination-in-chief will carry on at the next hearing. The nurse’s testimony is the first major step in the trial, as the prosecution begins to place its version of the January 2025 incident before the court.
