Former IGB REIT CEO Elizabeth Tan's passing a great loss

KUALA LUMPUR: Former IGB REIT Management Sdn Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Elizabeth Tan Hui Ning's passing marks the loss of a senior figure who spent more than two decades in the IGB Group's property and retail operations.

Tan, 42, the daughter of IGB REIT Management executive chairman Datuk Seri Robert Tan Chung Meng, who is also a major unitholder in IGB REIT and IGB Commercial REIT, died on Tuesday.

In a notice to tenants, business partners and colleagues, IGB REIT Management said Tan would be deeply remembered by those who had worked with her.

The company extended its condolences to her father, sister Gabrielle Tan Hui Chween and the rest of the family.

"IGB Reit extended its deepest condolences to Tan's family and loved ones during the difficult time," said chief executive officer Chai Lai Sim, on behalf of the board, management and staff.

Tan graduated with First Class Honours in Business Administration from Cardiff University, Wales, before beginning her career with the IGB Group.

She began her career with Mid Valley City Gardens Sdn Bhd in August 2004, shortly after graduating with First Class Honours in Business Administration from Cardiff University, Wales.

She progressed through various senior roles, including head of operations and leasing, before being appointed executive director in January 2011.

She later served as joint chief operating officer and head of operations and leasing at The Gardens Mall, overseeing its day-to-day operations, leasing activities and asset enhancement strategies.

Tan was appointed CEO of IGB REIT Management effective January 2024, following the retirement of Antony Patrick Barragry.

However, she stepped down from the position on March 19, 2025, due to medical reasons, after which Barragry was appointed acting CEO.

Tan also resigned as an alternate director of IGB Bhd in January 2026 due to health issues, according to a Bursa Malaysia filing.
