Sense and Sensibility is now available to watch at home after only one month in cinemas

Sense and Sensibility may still be playing in selected cinemas across both the UK and US, but you can now watch the popular period drama at home if you'd rather not head to the big screen.

The film is an adaptation of Jane Austen's classic 1811 novel of the same name, with the story following the Dashwood family as they are forced out of their lavish estate to a modest cottage in Devon.

At the same time, the studious Elinor (Daisy Edgar-Jones) finds a match with Edward Ferrars (George MacKay), while the energetic Marianne (Esmé Creed-Miles) is very much smitten with the charming John Willoughby (Frank Dillane).

After being released in UK cinemas just over a month ago, the romantic drama can now be rented or purchased via services such as Prime Video and AppleTV. If you want to rent, it costs £15.99, while buying outright costs £19.99.

Both editions come with some bonus features, but fans of Austen can also get a special treat from Prime Video as you can buy a three-film bundle - which also includes Pride & Prejudice and Emma - for a discounted price of £24.99.

Directed by Georgia Oakley from a screenplay by Diana Reid, the stellar support cast for the period drama includes Fiona Shaw, Caitríona Balfe, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Stacy Martin and Chloe Pirrie.

Upon its release in the UK on 25 September, Sense and Sensibility was widely lauded by critics and viewers alike, with Rotten Tomatoes currently reporting an approval rating of 76% from 117 reviews. Its audience score, however, is markedly higher at 88%.

In Digital Spy's three-star review, we called it "surprisingly timely" while reserving praise for Edgar-Jones's "mesmerising" performance, adding: "It successfully updates an Austen classic that will resonate with modern women about the pitfalls and lessons of love."

We also spoke with the cast and crew ahead of its release, with Dillane being asked about some of the more troubling aspects of his character. But despite his many wrongs, the actor thought it may be harsh to call Willoughby a walking red flag.

"I think he means what he says. I think he's as much a victim of the time as anyone else. Definitely he makes mistakes, but these are young people, [and] young people make mistakes," explained the actor.

Sense and Sensibility is playing in select cinemas, and is also available to buy or rent on Prime Video and AppleTV.
