Former minister Jamil Khir to face three charges over Tabung Haji probe tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — Former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom is reportedly set to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow in connection with an investigation into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) arising from a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI).

According to Bernama, the court system showed that Jamil Khir is scheduled to appear before Sessions Court judge Rosli Ahmad at 9am.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman reportedly said on Thursday that the commission had recommended three charges against the former minister under Section 403 of the Penal Code for dishonest misappropriation of property.

Jamil Khir was released on bail on September 8 after being remanded for seven days from September 2.

He had earlier been detained after arriving at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to give a statement as part of investigations linked to findings in the TH RCI report.

The RCI report, made public on July 29, documented management and operational weaknesses at TH between 2014 and 2020 and identified several problematic investments requiring forensic audits.

The report also referred to suspicious transactions and the concealment of information.
