Apple quietly hikes iPhone Air, 17, 17e prices in Malaysia after 18 Pro launch

PETALING JAYA, Sept 13 — Apple has quietly raised the prices of several existing iPhone models in Malaysia following the launch of the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.

The price revision affects the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e, with most variants now costing RM300 more than before.

However, the biggest increase is for the iPhone Air 1TB option, which now costs RM8,299. That’s RM1,300 more than its original launch price of RM6,999.

Tim Cook previously warned about rising memory costs

The latest iPhone price revisions come several months after Apple CEO Tim Cook warned that rising memory and storage costs could eventually put pressure on product pricing.

Back in June, The Wall Street Journal reported that the sharp increase in memory prices, driven partly by surging demand from AI data centres, was increasing Apple’s component costs.

Cook did not specifically say which Apple products would become more expensive, but Malaysia has already seen significant price increases across the company’s product lineup this year.

In June, Apple revised the prices of several MacBook, Mac and iPad models in Malaysia, with some configurations increasing by hundreds or even thousands of ringgit.

The impact was also evident with Apple’s latest Macs. The new M6 Mac Mini launched in Malaysia from RM3,799, which is RM1,300 more than the RM2,499 starting price of the previous M4 Mac Mini when it was launched in 2024.

Apple’s latest Mac Studio has similarly moved further upmarket, with the 2026 model starting from RM10,999.

iPhone 18 Pro surprisingly keeps the same starting price

Despite the price increases affecting Apple’s older iPhones, the newly launched iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have surprisingly retained the same starting prices as their predecessors in Malaysia. Both devices was available for pre-order September 12 and it will go on sale on September 18 in Malaysia.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts from RM5,499 for 256GB, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts from RM5,999.

The 256GB and 512GB variants cost exactly the same as the equivalent iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max at launch.

However, the 1TB iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max cost RM1,000 more than the equivalent previous-generation models, while the 2TB versions are RM2,000 more expensive.

There’s no standard iPhone 18 model release this year so the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e remain the entry-level flagship iPhone models available right now.

If you’re looking for the latest foldable, the Apple iPhone Duo is priced from RM9,499 for the base 256GB model and it goes all the way up to RM14,999 for the 2TB option. The iPhone Duo will go on sale in Malaysia next month on October 23. — SoyaCincau
