President William Ruto Appeals To Kalonzo Musyoka For 2027 Support During Kitui Tour
President William Ruto has called on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to support his re-election bid in the 2027 General Election, recalling their long-standing political ties dating back over three decades.
Speaking during a development tour in Kalonzo’s Kitui County stronghold on Monday, October 26, 2026, the Head of State urged local residents to remind the former Vice President of their historical cooperation under the Youth for KANU ’92 (YK92) lobby group during the 1992 multiparty elections.
“Remind him that in 1992 I came here and campaigned for him under the KANU party and he won. Tell him to remember me next year. If I ask him to return the favour in 2027, will I have done anything wrong?” President Ruto posed to the crowd. He added: “Even Kithure Kindiki helped him in 2007 when he wanted to become president.”
Nationwide Campaigns and Opposition Pushback
The President’s remarks come amid an extensive nationwide tour aimed at inspecting, launching, and commissioning development projects while outlining the achievements of his administration’s economic blueprint.
However, Kalonzo Musyoka—a key principal in the Ukombozi Alliance who has declared his intention to challenge Ruto in 2027—has criticized the executive development tours, accusing the administration of using public project launches for premature campaigning.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Tharaka-Nithi County on Saturday, the Wiper leader dismissed the President’s overtures and criticized the government’s economic track record.
“Ruto ako Machakos na ata ameenda kunisifu na ametangaza kwamba yule mpinzani wake sugu ni Kalonzo Musyoka, yule mtu wa miaka arubaini. Lakini Ruto kumbuka for 40 years the Israelites were in the desert, and Kenyans have been in the desert because of poor governorship, theft of public funds and leaders enriching themselves with public funds,” Kalonzo stated.
As both sides intensify political engagements across the country, the battle for the Eastern region remains a key focal point for prospective 2027 alliances.
