Pokémon TCG Scalpers Are Furious They've Been Out-Played Over 30th Anniversary Sets

After long last, the Pokémon TCG 30th Anniversary Set launched last week, but it seems as though one group of "fans" has been left feeling humiliated after efforts to put an end to scalping were finally met with success.

Featuring 199 cards in total, including 128 main-set cards, 33 Secret Rares, 30 Classic Collection cards, and 8 special foil Basic Energy cards, the 30th Anniversary Set was a must-buy for any Pokémon fan, especially those who have been collecting the cards since they first burst onto the scene way back in 1996.

However, as with any major release, scalpers are always a worry. Dedicated to purchasing stock in large numbers, only to sell it on at much higher prices, scalpers make it so that the average customer can never get their hands on the item they have been waiting for. Luckily, on this occasion, steps put in place made it almost impossible for scalpers to ruin this momentous launch.

So much so, that a Discord server dedicated to scalpers has shown just how much frustration these people have been feeling since the launch of the Pokémon TCG 30th Anniversary Set. Shared over on r/interesting, one scalper even revealed that they are thinking of taking "legal action" against Pokémon for foiling their scalping plans.

"I don't know what to do," one of the Discord messages began. "I maxed out three different credit cards buying as much 30th Anniversary stuff as possible. Everyone was talking about it for over a year. It's the most hyped set ever. Why did they make so much? What am I going to tell my wife??? There's no way I can offload all this at a profit and my local stores are not accepting returns. I've been nothing but loyal to this brand for over eight months and this is how they treat us? They knew it would financially ruin people. They knew the secondary economy they created. They are no worse than a community government controlling their currency. Pokémon's greed ruined my livelihood."

Another Discord user shared the same sentiment, adding, "I'm seriously considering taking legal action against Pokémon. It's disgusting that they did not share exact print numbers, pull rates, and how big the supply truly is. They overhyped the set, making us secondary distributors the victims of their marketing. Honestly, this could be a RICO violation if we find out that they purposefully did this to take money out of our pockets. No one has supported Pokémon in the past more than us, helping distribute the product at a fair market value instead of underpriced MSRP. It is difficult to determine whether this is satire or not and, if not, all the best to them trying to sue The Pokémon Company. However, in good news, it seems as though the steps taken to stop scalping were actually successful for the launch of Pokémon TCG 30th Anniversary Set, and we can only hope that this will set the precedent going forward.
