Jaguars lose starting defender to injury for rest of season

Translate

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without starting safety Eric Murray for the remainder of the season, head coach Liam Coen confirmed on Monday.

Murray exited Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts with an elbow injury after the opening kickoff.

The Jaguars were also without Antonio Johnson this past game, as he works through an ankle injury. Coen says he will "hopefully" have a better feel on Tuesday if Johnson can return to practice.

Without Murray or Johnson, Rayuan Lane and Kaevon Merriweather handled the safety snaps. Rookie Jalen Huskey is also a candidate in Anthony Campanile's defense, which often features three players at this position.

This season, Murray has made 14 total tackles and has held opponents to 6.0 yards per catch on only three receptions.
