Two soldiers wounded in Sultan Kudarat ambush

SULTAN KUDARAT, Maguindanao del Norte — Two Philippine Army soldiers assigned to the 7th Infantry Battalion sustained injuries Wednesday night after being ambushed by unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects along the Davao-Cotabato National Highway in Barangay Ladia, Sultan Kudarat.

The victims of the incident that occurred about 6:10 p.m. were identified as Police First Corporal Labuson, 44, married, a resident of Barangay Sinawingan, Libungan and a member of the Bravo Company, 7th Infantry Battalion, 6th Infantry Division and his companion, Pfc. Dumaguing.

At the time of the attack, the two soldiers were riding a black Kawasaki Bajaj single motorcycle with white and red stripes bearing plate number M339JE going to the direction of North Cotabato.

According to initial police reports, the victims were followed and intercepted by two unidentified suspects aboard a white Yamaha NMAX motorcycle.

The assailants then opened fire using a short firearm, believed to be a caliber .45 pistol.

Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) Spokesperson Captain Steffi Salanguit said authorities responded swiftly to the scene and are currently conducting a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack. — BAP, GMA News
