Electronic duo The Chainsmokers has gone independent.

On Tuesday (Oct. 13), the pair released a joint statement on social media saying, “After 11 amazing years, we are now independent artists. We are eternally grateful to our incredible team at Columbia/Distruptor [sic] for a decade plus of hard work that has resulted in unimaginable success. We have no idea what to expect for our next chapter but we are extremely excited to have fun and experiment with all our new music releases. Thank you for sticking with us fam we know we owe you some records!”

The duo’s first single with Columbia/Disruptor came in 2015 with the song “Good Intentions,” followed by era-defining hits including “Roses,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Closer” and “Something Just Like This,” along with five studio albums. Its most recent release on Columbia/Disruptor was the 2026 Love Is Kind EP, which came out in May.

Disruptor Records was founded by The Chainsmokers’ former manager Adam Alpert as a joint venture with Sony. The duo — Drew Taggart and Alex Pall — dissolved its management deal with Alpert in 2025.

Last week, Pall nodded to these change-ups in a LinkedIn post that stated, “We changed a lot of the team around The Chainsmokers recently, and it’s been interesting watching what happens when you bring in people who don’t have years of history around how everything’s ‘supposed’ to work. To be clear, the people we worked with before were amazing and did a ton of great work for us. This wasn’t even about anyone doing a bad job. Sometimes it’s just time to shake things up, even when everything’s working fine, because a fresh perspective can find things you’d never think to look for.”
