Eric Omondi Faults Senator Karen Nyamu Over Attendance at KICC Health Event

Stand-up comedian and civil rights activist Eric Omondi has criticized Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu following her controversial appearance at Natalie Githinji’s Endometriosis Warriors (N.E.W.) awareness event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Speaking on Monday, September 28, 2026, Omondi stated that event organizers had explicitly resolved to bar politicians from the venue to prevent political posturing and ensure the gathering remained exclusively focused on health advocacy and supporting Githinji’s medical crusade.

The event saw Nyamu take to the stage to address the audience before being interrupted by loud chants of “Wantam” from portions of the crowd. While Nyamu subsequently attributed the hostile reception to Omondi’s presence and anti-government activism, Omondi maintained that the Senator’s attendance directly violated the organizers’ directive.

Omondi disclosed that Nyamu had reached  out to him via telephone prior to the event expressing her interest in contributing to the cause.

“Karen Nyamu sijawai mwongelesha na alinipigia jana akisema anataka kusupport Natalie,” Omondi stated, noting that he directed her to send financial assistance directly to Githinji. Following their conversation, Nyamu transferred KSh 100,000 to Githinji, though Omondi stressed that at no point did the lawmaker mention her intention to attend in person.

Omondi revealed that security personnel at the venue access points had been given strict protocols regarding political figures.

“We had given orders kwa gate, no politicians because they would divert conversation, and it was about endometriosis and Natalie,” Omondi explained.

Elaborating on the ban, Omondi outlined two primary reasons why politicians were intentionally excluded from the program. First, he highlighted that elected leaders—including Nairobi women representatives and aspirants—had consistently failed to offer financial backing when approached to assist Githinji with her medical bills and event logistics, leaving her with significant debts for venue hiring and sound infrastructure at KICC. Second, organizers wanted to safeguard the integrity of the health advocacy campaign from political hijacking.

“Reason number one, hakuna politician hatuupigia simu hata sai Natalie ako na deni hajamaliza kulipa KICC na sound… None of them supported Natalie,” Omondi stated. “Reason number two, we did not want you to come and divert our message and attention from endometriosis.”

Questioning why the Senator chose to attend despite knowing the likely public reaction, Omondi urged political leaders to allow grassroots campaigners to hold center stage without unsolicited political intrusion.
