24 statements recorded over attack on Kuching private school teacher

Police have recorded statements from 24 people in their investigation into an alleged attack on a teacher at a private school in Kuching.
Acting Sarawak police chief Saifullizan Ishak said those questioned as of Oct 22 included the complainant, the victim, medical officers, officers involved in the arrest and seizure, school authorities and students.
Statements were also taken from the parents and family driver of the 16-year-old suspect who allegedly carried out the attack, he said in a statement today.
Saifullizan said the suspect was still receiving treatment in hospital, and police would proceed with the investigation with due consideration for the teenager’s health as well as the advice and assessment of medical officers.
“We stress that the investigation is being conducted professionally, meticulously and comprehensively, taking into account all relevant information and evidence,” he said.
“Any further action will be based on facts obtained and the applicable laws.”
Saifullizan also urged the public to respect the privacy of those involved and refrain from sharing identities, images or personal information that could identify any party, particularly minors.
The 16-year-old student was arrested after allegedly attacking a female teacher with a hatchet in an incident livestreamed on social media. He was also reportedly carrying firecrackers.
The teacher suffered a hand injury and was taken to Sarawak General Hospital.
The teenager was detained and held in the psychiatric ward of the same hospital for further assessment.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957.
