Baznas RI, AVPN boost global Islamic philanthropy ties

Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Board of Zakat has established a synergy with the Asia Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) to strengthen the Islamic philanthropy ecosystem by developing social impact measurement for its programs and expanding its global collaborative network.
Deputy Chair of Baznas, Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi, stated in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday that the strengthened partnership aligns with BAZNAS’ efforts to enhance the management of Zakat, Infaq, and Sadaqah (ZIS) to ensure greater impact.
He said Baznas welcomes modern governance innovations and is ready to partner with global networks like AVPN to adopt international social impact standards, strengthen amil (zakat administrator) capacity, and expand poverty alleviation programs through ZIS impact investment.
Sa'adi explained that Baznas does not focus solely on short-term charitable aid; rather, it promotes empowerment programs designed to create systemic, measurable change that is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He noted three primary areas of focus for the synergy between Baznas RI and AVPN.
First, integrating international social impact measurement standards into Baznas’s empowerment programs, such as ZMart, livestock farming centers, and scholarship initiatives.
Second, strengthening the capacity and networks of zakat administrators through training and the exchange of best practices in international philanthropic management.
"Third, intensifying advocacy regarding the role of Islamic philanthropy as a strategic pillar for achieving the SDGs in the Asia-Pacific region," he said.
Beyond these three focus areas, he added, Baznas RI is also promoting the mainstreaming of faith-based philanthropy as a means to address various social and economic challenges.
Key issues of concern include climate change, access to education, and inclusive economic empowerment for the community.
Meanwhile, Kurt Peleman, Executive Director of Philanthropy at AVPN, welcomed the opportunity for collaboration with Baznas.
He noted that this synergy could bridge the potential of faith-based social capital with modern philanthropic approaches.
He believes that Indonesia holds a strategic position within the social investment ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to him, zakat (obligatory almsgiving) has the potential to serve as a vital instrument for advancing the achievement of sustainable development.
