Tropical depression to enter PAR Thursday; may enhance habagat

MANILA, Philippines — The tropical depression monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) will enter the country by Thursday morning or afternoon and is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, according to the state weather bureau on Wednesday. 

In the 5 a.m. weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the tropical depression was estimated to be 1,920 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon as of 3 a.m. It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Dominguez said that the tropical depression will enter the PAR as a tropical storm category and will achieve its highest category as a typhoon while it is inside the country.

Dominguez said that the tropical depression’s trough will continue to affect the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao.

“Dulot ng trough, inaasahan ang mataas na tyansa ng pag-ulan sa buong Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Davao Oriental,” she added.

She then said that the rest of Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan will see clear skies with chances of localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. 

Meanwhile, Luzon will experience fair weather conditions with hot and humid weather at noon and afternoon with chances of isolated rainshowers in the afternoon and evening due to localized thunderstorms.
