Man arrested for punching Udon Thani student and stealing Yeti tumbler

UDON THANI — 22 September 2026, A student in Udon Thani said he was punched and robbed of an insulated tumbler while waiting to enter class on Tuesday evening.

Police were called to Pho Chinda 5 Road in Nong Bua, Mueang Udon Thani, after the 24-year-old student reported being attacked by a man.

The student said he had been sitting near the roadside while waiting for class when he noticed a stranger shouting and swearing at passing motorcyclists. The man then approached him, spoke aggressively and demanded the insulated tumbler he was using.

The student refused because there was still water inside it. He said the man briefly walked away, then returned, shouted abuse and punched him twice in the face before taking the tumbler and walking away.

Although he was not seriously injured, the student said he was concerned for the safety of others using the area, particularly women, because of the man’s allegedly aggressive behaviour. He filed a police complaint.

Police later detained a 35-year-old man outside his home and recovered a tumbler matching the student’s description. Officers said the suspect gave confused and unclear information about the incident and was taken to Mueang Udon Thani Police Station for further questioning.

Police have initially charged him with robbery. The college is reportedly preparing to send lawyers to assist the student and follow the case.

Neighbours also alleged that the man had previously caused disturbances in the area, including shouting in public, but police said those claims were still being verified.
