Miriam College (MC) ushered in its historic centennial year with Salubong sa Sandaan, a festive day-to-midnight event held on September 11 and extending into the early hours of September 12. The school community—comprising employees, students, and alumni—gathered at the Loyola Heights campus to mark this significant milestone and celebrate an institution whose century-long legacy is rooted in faith, education, service, and leadership.
The celebration opened with the entire community praying the Holy Rosary in honor of Mother Mary, after whom the school was named. Miriam is the Aramaic name of Mother Mary. This was followed by the Karakol, a traditional Marian procession, and the celebration of the Centennial Mass officiated by Bishop Honesto Ontioco, D.D., of the Diocese of Cubao.

The festivities continued throughout the evening with the screening of short films created by students and MC employees for the Miriam College Film Festival (MCFF). The program also featured the school’s homegrown talents from its three campuses—MC Loyola Heights, MC Nuvali, and MC Alviera.

A much-anticipated moment was the MCFF awarding ceremony led by Miriam College President Dr. Maria Regina Lizares and Human Resources Director Dr. Noel Racho.
Celebrating a century of legacy

The centennial celebration continued on September 12 as generations of Maryknoll and Miriam College alumni gathered at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati for the Centennial Night and the launch of the coffee table book, ‘The Legacy We Carry: 100 Years From Maryknoll to Miriam.’

The evening brought together alumni from across generations for a night of bonding, dancing, and music. A highlight of the celebration was a fashion show honoring alumni and newly conferred National Artist for Design Maria Beatriz “Patis” Pamintuan Tesoro.

From Maryknoll to Miriam, the institution’s influence on Philippine education—particularly women’s education—has become an enduring part of the nation’s history. From its beginnings in 1926 as a teacher-training school in Malabon–where it produced its first women graduates–the institution has gone on to nurture generations of students and distinguished alumni whose leadership and service have made a lasting impact across diverse fields, both in the Philippines and abroad. Today, Miriam College continues to expand its mission in education beyond the walls of its Loyola Heights campus with the opening of Miriam College Nuvali in 2014 and Miriam College Alviera in 2025.

Miriam College’s year-long centennial celebration is expected to continue until September 2027, with a lineup of activities that will bring together the school community and its stakeholders. Among these are the Christmas Bazaar, a concert by the Miriam College Music Center, the MC100 Fun Run, and the Academic Conference on Teaching and Learning.
