Jack Lowden On James Bond & Gary Oldman’s 007 Endorsement: “It’s All Very Flattering”

Jack Lowden has done little to deny that he’s in the running to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond.
In an interview with GQ magazine, the Scottish actor said being linked to 007 was “all very flattering” and that he was honored to secure the approval of his Slow Horses co-star, Gary Oldman.
Deadline revealed last month that Lowden was one of four actors expected to test for the lead role in Denis Villeneuve‘s reboot of the spy franchise for Amazon MGM Studios.
Callum Turner and Josh O’Connor were also among the actors namechecked by Deadline’s Justin Kroll. The fourth actor involved in the screen tests remains a mystery.
“Oh, Christ,” Lowden responded to the Bond question from GQ. “On this… It’s all very flattering. It’s nice to be mentioned – for any role – and I’m just not really going to add to the noise.”
He added: “As a young male actor, generally, the minute you’re not playing a zany artist type, the minute you’re in a suit, people fling it at you.”
On Oldman tipping him for the role, Lowden said: “It’s very nice, and Gary’s a sweetheart – it’s particularly lovely, coming from someone like him. But I don’t really listen to it.”
During an interview with Canada’s Global in September, Oldman caused a storm of headlines when he suggested that Bond had been cast.
“It’s been rumored that he’s [Lowden] on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
One possible factor in Lowden’s favor: Nina Gold, who cast the actor as River Cartwright in Slow Horses, is leading the search for Bond alongside Villeneuve and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman.
