Real Madrid on Friday has demanded the resignation of La Liga president and Royal Spanish Football Federation vice president Javier Tebas over his comments comparing the club’s method to that of Nazi Germany regime.
Earlier today, Tebas lashed out at Madrid on social media with a long post that criticised how its club television channel says referees hurt its chances of winning.
The channel regularly runs reels of what it considers gross errors by match officials who are set to work upcoming games for the 15-time European champion.
Tebas compared the tactic with those of Joseph Goebbels, the minister of propaganda in World War II Nazi Germany.
“Real Madrid CF considers it absolutely intolerable and extremely serious that someone holding two top positions of responsibility in Spanish football would resort to comparing the club’s propaganda methods to those of the Nazi regime in order to discredit it, its management, and its television channel,” the club said in a statement.
“The clarification that he is not referring to Nazi ideology does not diminish the deeply offensive, morally repugnant, and institutionally undignified nature of his statements.”
“It is particularly serious that Tebas is using these statements to question the legitimate actions of Real Madrid and Real Madrid Television in relation to the Negreira case.”
Madrid also repeated its complaint that Tebas hasn’t done enough over the on-going judicial probe into Barcelona’s alleged payments to an official on the refereeing committee of the Spanish football federation for several years.
