Musicians Who Are Cat Lovers: Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran & More

Translate

Every year, the United States recognizes National Cat Day on Oct. 29 — and there’s a good number of cat-owning musicians who have a lot to celebrate on the holiday.

Some of the biggest names in pop, country and hip-hop have sassy, cuddly, playful, pointy-eared companions waiting for them at home each day, from Katy Perry to Doja Cat, Adele, Kesha and more. And then there’s Taylor Swift, who’s so obsessed with her felines, she’s incorporated them into her music multiple times — singing, “Guess I’ll just stumble on home to my cats” on “Gorgeous” and “Karma is a cat, purring in my lap ’cause it loves me” on “Karma.”

A lot of stars also make their own social media accounts for their pets, allowing followers to nurture fandom not just for them, but for their animals, too. Justin Bieber’s kitties have a following of nearly 300,000 on Instagram, for example, while Ed Sheeran’s cats are close behind in numbers.

And just like non-famous humans, many musicians have their own favorite breeds of cats. Swift is known for her love of Scottish Folds, while Bieber paid a pretty penny ($35,000!) in 2019 for a pair of spotted Bengals. Other singers are content with more common types of felines, such as Black cats and Tabbies.

No matter the breed or amount of followers, though, the cats featured on this list are loved through and through by their famous owners. Keep reading to see which musicians are certified cat lovers, from Adele to Sabrina Carpenter and more, below.

  • Adele

In 2018, Adele used National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day as a chance to show off her black cat on X. “Had this joker for almost a year now,” she wrote at the time. “He’s the most beautiful cat, so glad we saved him.”

  • Billy Corgan

Billy Corgan is one of rock music’s most passionate cat lovers, with the Smashing Pumpkins frontman working closely with PAWS Chicago over the years and posing on the animal shelter’s magazine cover in 2014 with two adorable black felines.

“My mom was a cat person and I used to marvel at her weirdness over her cats,” he shared at the time. “I was dismayed that she had more pictures of cats than her children … but I inherited my mother’s cat person thing.”

  • Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani

One of music’s biggest couples welcomed a new feline into their family when a tiny grey kitty showed up at their house in September 2024. “He was hardly alive + so sick, but with a lot of love + nurturing, he became a healthy kitten,” Stefani wrote on Instagram, sharing a video of Corn Shelton meowing on her porch and cuddling with another cat.

  • Britney Spears

Spears may be a well-documented fan of dogs and horses, but the pop star also has a soft spot for cats. In 2021, she wrote, “I really want a small cat 🐈 !!! I’ve never owned a cat …. They seem suspiciously smart to me 😼 !!!! We have one thing in common we both like milk 🥛🤷🏼‍♀️😂😜 !!!!”⁣

The next year, Spears introduced her spotted kitty, Wendy, to fans on Instagram in May 2022.

  • Carole King

The singer-songwriter posed with her tabby cat Telemachus for the cover of her 1971 album, Tapestry. The classic album topped the Billboard 200 for 15 weeks and won a Grammy for album of the year.

Photographer Jim McCrary took the famous shot of King sitting on a window ledge in her Laurel Canyon home, dressed simply in a gray sweater and blue jeans, with a cat sitting beside her. It was McCrary’s idea to include the cat, who was sleeping across the room. As Valerie Nelson recounted in a Los Angeles Times obituary of the famed photographer, “When King assured him that her pet was docile, he carried the tabby and its pillow to the window ledge and into the frame. By the third click of his camera, the cat had slipped away but McCrary had what he needed: a picture of both the barefoot songstress and her whiskered feline that became the cover of King’s landmark 1971 Tapestry album.”

  • David Crosby

David Crosby always had an affinity for cats, posing in many photos with felines in his life. Sadly, the animal was also associated with loss for the late Byrds band member — as Christine Hinton, his longterm girlfriend at the time, died in a car accident in 1969 after one of their felines got loose in the vehicle on their way to the vet.

That didn’t stop him from loving cats, though. Crosby and his wife, Jan Dance, lived with numerous cats, dogs and horses on their ranch later in the late rocker’s life.

  • Deadmau5

A certain mouse head-wearing DJ loves kitties so much, he donated $30,000 in June 2026 to help rescue cats. The year prior, he spoke to Billboard all about his own fur babies, Peanut, Dizzy and Dolly.

“As benign as it sounds, what a stress-reliever they can be,” he said at the time. “You know, whereas you feel like the world is just ready to f—king tear you apart, and [cats] are like, ‘We don’t know s—t, but whatever. We like pets.’”

  • Doja Cat

Doja Cat didn’t choose her stage name at random — she’s always been a fan of cats. The rapper has a coven of kitties at home, including an Oriental Shorthair named Ray, a Lykoi named Irving Saint John and a black cat named Alex.

  • Ed Sheeran

Sheeran has long been a cat lover, and he even made an Instagram account for his two fur babies, Calippo & Dorito. He also had a cat named Graham, who passed away in 2019.

  • Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding has left quite the digital pawprint, in that she’s posted many photos of felines over the years. “I’m obsessed now,” she told Ellen Degeneres in 2013, before she even owned a cat of her own. “I never thought I was gonna be one of those people who was gonna post photos of a lot of animals, and now I am. I’m Catwoman.”

The “Love Me Like You Do” singer has since owned at least three cats — spotted Bengals named Lennon and Wallace and another kitty named Eve.

  • Jennifer Lopez

    J. Lo introduced fans to her kitty, Hendrix, during holiday season in 2021 — sharing a video on X of the Devon Rex sitting near her Christmas tree and slowly zooming in on his face.

  • Justin Bieber

Justin and Hailey Bieber are proud cat parents to their $35,000 Savannahs, Tuna and Sushi. The couple even has an Instagram account dedicated to the spotted kitties.

  • John Lennon

All four members of The Beatles reportedly had or have had cats throughout their lives, but John Lennon’s fondness for felines has been particularly well documented. In 2012, Mental Floss counted up 16 cats that Lennon owned from boyhood to the latter part of his life with Yoko Ono, including Elvis, Major and Minor, Salt and Pepper and more.

  • Katy Perry

Perry is a cat lover through and through — the members of her fanbase are even called Katy Cats. For many years, the pop star was a pet mom to a feline named Kitty Purry, who died in 2020.

“Kitty Purry crawled through my then-boyfriend’s window 15 years ago, fully pregnant and seeking shelter,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “Two litters and many moons later, this street cat became a lovable mascot to many.”

  • Kesha

Kesha is a proud self-proclaimed cat lady — what else do you call someone with a dual stroller for kitty walks outside? Among the pop star’s fur babies are Mr. Peep$ — who stars in her “Little Bit of Love” music video and is credited as a co-director — and Mr. Fluffy Pant$.

  • Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain is remembered not just as Nirvana’s legendary frontman, but as a lover of cats who appeared in many photos looking content with the felines in his life. He reportedly named one of them Spina Bifida.

  • LISA

LISA of BLACKPINK loves her feline friends, of which she has many. Just look at the Instagram page she has dedicated to her five kitties, who often eat and play together. (The K-pop star also has a dog named Love who shares the page with his cat siblings.)

  • Macklemore

The love Macklemore has for his kitty Cairo is well-documented. In addition to making an Instagram account for the Tabby and proudly showing off his athletic abilities in 2014, the rapper also filmed a tutorial on how to properly hold a cat.

  • MGK

MGK (formerly Machine Gun Kelly) and Megan Fox expanded their family in 2022 by adding a spotted kitty named Whiskey to the mix. The next year, the couple adopted two more felines: Tickets and Na’avi.

  • Miley Cyrus

In addition to many dogs — and one pig — Cyrus’ large pack of pets includes three kitties named Keke, Lilo and Shanti Om Bb. “Heaven,” she wrote in 2016 of laying down with a feline on her stomach.

  • Sabrina Carpenter

Carpenter has shared posts on social media about her cats multiple times over the years, and she grew up with felines at home before she became a pop star (exhibit A: a viral video of a young Sab demonstrating her “animal communication” skills).

One of the star’s kitties can be seen in a TikTok video posted by the “Espresso” singer after a day of Christmas baking.

  • SUGA

SUGA of BTS has a black cat named Tang, whom he shows off on Instagram sometimes. In 2026, the K-pop star celebrated his 33rd birthday with a cake decorated to look just like Tang.

  • Taylor Swift

Swift is one of music’s best-known cat lovers, with the pop star owning two Scottish Folds — Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson — and a Ragdoll named Benjamin Button. The kitties often make cameos in the pop star’s social media accounts, commercials and music videos, with Benji even appearing with his mom on the cover of Time in December 2023.
