Dele-Bashiru set for Lazio contract talks
Lazio will open contract extension talks with Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in December, with the aim of tying him to the club for the long term, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Italian club reportedly want to offer the 25-year-old a new deal and a pay rise before the January transfer window opens. Dele-Bashiru joined Lazio in the summer of 2025 and is under contract until June 2028.
Despite having two years left on that deal, the club are keen to settle his future early and avoid uncertainty as the winter window approaches.
The proposed talks will centre on extending his contract and improving his salary, which would reflect his importance to the club’s long-term plans. A new agreement would also give Lazio greater security over their investment in the player, particularly with interest in his services reportedly emerging from abroad. However, the outcome will depend on discussions between the club’s hierarchy and the player’s representatives, and no terms have been agreed.
Corriere dello Sport, via Lazio News 24, reported that Dele-Bashiru is among the players Lazio want to retain. The club also want to extend the contracts of Danish winger Gustav Isaksen and Italian midfielder Nicolò Rovella, which also run until 2028, and to offer them improved salaries. Lazio reportedly expect to start or step up talks with the representatives of all three players by December.

Dele-Bashiru has earned 19 caps for Nigeria and scored twice. He has an estimated market value of €6m and has previously been linked with Manchester United.
His season has been interrupted by injury. He suffered a hamstring problem in Lazio’s opening Serie A game against Bologna on August 24, which kept him out of several matches and ruled him out of Nigeria’s September and October games.
He returned to group training and received medical clearance before head coach Gennaro Gattuso brought him on in the 60th minute of Lazio’s 3-1 win over Monza on October 11.
His return gives Gattuso another midfield option for a demanding run of domestic fixtures. The immediate priority for the midfielder is to regain full match fitness and establish himself in the squad, while Lazio, with time left on his contract, work towards securing his future in Rome.
